Our Greatest Fear
from A Return to Love by Mariamme Williamson
Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were all meant to shine as children do
We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.
And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

After seeing this it reminded me that in society today we are told to be tolerant of other people and the choices they make. We must be tolerant and accepting of homosexuals, though we may not agree with their lifestyle. We must respect a woman's right to "choose" abortion, though we know the child has no choice. We must accept a persons right of freedom of expression while they degrade the men and women that give that right to them. Despite all of this acceptance we are not allowed to talk about God or the Bible because it is offensive to some people. It frustrates me that society has steeped so low that there are no longer moral absolutes and the very beliefs this country was founded on is now considered taboo. Do not get me wrong I am all for freedom of religion, that is after all one of the reasons this country was founded, but freedom of religion means freedom of all religion including christianity! Is it really to much to ask that the people that tell me I must be accepting of things that go directly against my beliefs also be accepting and tolerant of my beliefs?
